Endometrial Ablation

The lining of the uterus, or endometrium, is shed each month during a woman’s menstrual period. If the bleeding is too much or lasts too long, sometimes treatment may be needed. If the bleeding does not respond to medication, your doctor may suggest endometrial ablation, a procedure that treats the lining of the uterus to control or stop the bleeding. Afterward, a woman can no longer have children.

Endometrial ablation is a short procedure and is most often performed on an outpatient basis. In most cases, you can expect to resume your normal activities or go back to work within a day or two.
