Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and are more likely to break. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. These fractures typically occur in the hip, spine, and wrist. Women are four times more likely than men to develop the disease.

FIVE STEPS TO GOOD BONE HEALTH AND OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION

  1. EAT RIGHT: Get your daily recommended amounts of calcium and vitamin D.
  2. EXERCISE: Engage in regular weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercise.
  3. MAINTAIN A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE: Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
  4. TALK TO YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER: Discuss your bone health with your health care provider.
  5. GET TESTED: Have a bone density test.

We offer the Achilles InSightTM screening test as well as the DEXA scan to identify patients at risk for osteoporosis. With early detection, this life-threatening disease can be successfully treated.
