Sterilization

Sterilization is a permanent method of birth control, and you must be certain that you do not want to have children in the future. Sterilization is a very effective way to prevent pregnancy, but it does not prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Along with standard methods of tubal sterilization, Premier Women’s Health also offers Essure® permanent birth control, which does not require general anesthesia or any incisions. The procedure involves placing micro-inserts™ into the fallopian tubes to create a natural barrier against pregnancy, and it can be performed in the doctor’s office in less than an hour.

Because sterilization is a major decision, you should avoid making this decision during stressful times, such as during a divorce or after losing a pregnancy. Studies have shown that women younger than 30 years of age are more likely than older women to regret having the procedure.
